Greta Feeney is a lyric soprano, music scholar, and music educator who graduated from the music program at Nantucket High School and went on to study voice and acting at the The Juilliard Opera Center (JOC), where she sang the roles of Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Sister Constance in Dialogues of the Carmelites, a performance noted by the New York Times as “every bit worthy of Poulenc’s love…sung with an artless sweetness of tone and top notes like a golden bell.”

 

Dr. Feeney’s career as a young artist, featured artist, and chorister with the San Francisco Opera spans 15 years and includes more than 25 opera productions. Featured roles with SFO and its affiliates include Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Marzelline in Fidelio, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, Amanda in Le Grande Macabre, and the creation of the role of Marguerite in the world-premiere of Earthrise.

 

Dr. Feeney holds degrees from The Mannes College of Music (BMA), the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music (MM), and the State University of New York at Stony Brook (DMA), where her where her research centered on feminist musicology and the iconography of the pop star Madonna, the evolution of Russian lyric poetry into operatic recitative, and the intersection of theater and religion in Verdi’s operas.

Dr. Feeney has served on the music faculties of the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music, Bergen College, the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Nantucket Music Center, where she is currently in her second year of service as Executive Director.
